Whether you are printing coupons or documents for your personal use, you can save on ink just by switching the font and text size on your computer.
Now if you are printing a paper for school lets say, you aren't going to want to use this font - but for everyday use, (especially printing coupons) there are other money saving fonts to use.
Ink is a big expense of printing, as well as paper. While often you can get paper for free or super cheap by doing the office supply stores reward deals, you most likely won't find free ink!
So in order to cut down that expense, I have decided to change the default font and text size settings on my computer and downloaded another font.
I'm not a computer genius - AT ALL, but I did figure it out and I'm going to help you to do it too.
Ecofont is a font that has little holes in the letters. Hopefully you can see that in this blog post. :)
So first I went to Ecofont and downloaded the font. Next I changed the font on all areas of my computer. Some things like Gmail for example I couldn't chose Ecofont, but I read that Gothic is another money-saving font.
To change your font you go to Tools - Internet Options - Fonts and then find the Ecofont and click it and then click OK. Also you are going to want to make sure you ignore all fonts that the webpage itself has programmed. So even though you are looking at the page in Ecofont, it may not print in Ecofont. So again you want to go to Tools - Internet Options - Accessibility - and check mark Ignore webpage fonts and ignore webpage text size and click OK.
Now I will be honest, I haven't printed a coupon yet to see if it would scan. So I will come back and report how that works.
There are other ways to cut down on costs for printing. One suggestion besides this font is changing to Century Gothic. Another is to print Grayscale instead of color and/or blank and white.
Another way to cut down is to change the text size, and previewing your page before printing it. How many times have you printed something only to have one page just be the URL? I hate that! How stupid of me to have not previewed and then selected the pages I wanted to print. That is also where text size can come in handy. If you change from 12 point to 10 point for instance, you may be able to get your document you want to print on one page instead of two.
Also change your printer printing options. Mine is under the general tab, I chose fast printing (some list it as draft printing) then I clicked on grayscale. This will allow me to save on the color ink when I'm just printing coupons.
This doesn't take much time or effort to change fonts, text sizing or printing quality but can save you a ton of money on ink!
For paper if you can print double sided that will help, flipping your paper over and using the back side if you can't print double sided. Anything I print that I no longer need, I save it and load it back into my printer to use for my coupons. And I always get the paper that is either free after my Staples Easy rewards or super cheap!
Hope this information helps and again I will post an update once I try out printing and using a coupon with Ecofont! :)
