While I was getting ready today to take Reiley to a birthday party, thoughts were spinning thru my head about this new blog. First I thought, I have got to learn not to ramble... if you know me, this is going to be a challenge... if you don't, well you will soon see - I do it a lot!
I have lots of things in mind that I want to blog about - hopefully I won't run out of ideas... somehow... I don't think that is going to be a problem!
Tonight I'll leave you with an interesting subject brought up at the birthday party. One party goer says something to the effect of if you have a child with autism who is socially inept but really good at music lets say, do you change them to be more socially acceptable and take away from their music talent?
HUH? I asked him how does making the child more socially 'typical' take away from their musical ability? He stated that something always has to give.... you are trading one thing for another... so I asked him what would *I* be trading then trying to have my daughter learn or be able to eat by mouth instead of eating via a tube in her belly? His response... "I'm Sorry".... Why should you be sorry? I'm just wondering what would I be trading?
Anyway, it's always interesting to me to hear people's perspective on not so 'typical' life...
Geesh! I'd like to know his answer too! Really? I bet you could totally use the music to work on social skills...
